Features and aims of the course
We train professionals able to manage, in an integrated way, issues related to environmental degradation and to extreme natural events (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, floods). The course uniqueness is represented by its interdisciplinary features and by the link between scientific, legislative and managerial aspects, which are all necessary for the management of emergencies and environmental protection and recovery. At the end of the course, students will have specific skills in danger, risk and civil protection, in the area of prevention and mitigation of extreme natural events, in the management and planning of emergency, in sustainable development, as well as in the fields of management, conservation and recovery of the environment.

- assessment of natural and anthropogenic hazards and risks (chemical, geological, climatic, biological, ecological, industrial and fire);
- environmental sustainability and environmental certifications;
- renewable energies;
- environmental legislation and monitoring;
- waste management and environmental remediation;
- coordination of civil protection activities;

STRENGTHS OF THE COURSE
Some professors are involved in bodies directly connected to civil and environmental protection, such as the Civil Protection, Firefighters, Harbour offices and this peculiarity makes this degree course unique in Italy. Students have the opportunity to undertake professional-oriented internships within bodies operating in the environmental sector, such as the Regional Agency for Environmental Protecion (Agenzia Regionale per la Protezione Ambientale – ARPA) of the Marche region, waste processing plants, purification plants, and the Civil protection.
In addition to training, emergency management interventions, practical and on-field activities, professors involve students in national and international advanced research projects (management of sanitary emergencies, development of emergency plans, plastic and microplastics monitoring, restoration of ecosystems, analysis of population resilience in case of floods or earthquakes, urban mines and circular economy, quantification of the ecological footprint).
