During this 6-year course students will be preparing to be dental professionals that possess a multidisciplinary integrated approach for the treatment of dental patients.
During the first two years students will develop a sound understanding of the oral environment, fundamentals of oral and dental health, together with an appreciation of the principals of dental patient management. In the following three years the course introduces subjects that underpin medicine, surgery and diseases associated with poor oral health. Students will also learn good administrative and managerial abilities to run a dental practice.
In the last part of the programme the students’ learning occurs predominantly within the clinical environment with extensive opportunities for learning from dental patients.
The course aims to prepare students to become dentists (ISTAT Code 2.4.1.5.0).
Most dentists choose to work as self-employed in dental practices. Dentists can also work as general dental practitioners for the NHS providing dental care to the public, or in non-clinical roles in the management and organisation of dentistry. To begin practising, graduates must pass a national exam and register in the related dentists’ association. Graduates of this course are also eligible for admission to the Medical Schools of Specialization.
The high degree of students’ satisfaction – more than 90% – in terms of assessments and learning opportunities provided, as well as the excellent employability rates after 1 and 3 years from graduation.
This results from the highly vocational approach of the course which is designed to give students extensive clinical exposure for the practice of dentistry, providing care in diverse settings and with patients of all ages. In addition, the course provides students with the managerial and administrative skills necessary to run a dental practice.
